I used the Exoside Quadremesher for modelling, Substance Designer for texture and weathering, Houdini to generate the organic model and Arnold's clip geo for seams. I used Photoshop to touch up the image and bounce some more colours around.
It was hard to try to try and keep the illustrative forms that looked so good in my ref, I wasn't greatly successful with it but I'm happy to have used a few new programs and techniques while trying this.
